Formed in Los Angeles in 1984, NOFX has steered clear of major labels and commercial exposure over the course of eight albums, plus an assortment of EPs and singles. Comprising vocalist/bassist Fat Mike (Mike Burkett), guitarist Eric Melvin, trumpeter/guitarist El Hefe (Aaron Abeyta) and drummer Erik Ghint (Erik Sandin), the band's debut album The PMRC Can Suck on This appeared in 1987. Two years later, NOFX signed to Epitaph for S&M Airlines and have remained on the label, despite the release of several albums -- such as 1995's I Heard They Suck Live -- on Fat Mike's label, Fat Wreck Chords.
Dragged into the mainstream spotlight by the mid-'90s success of label-mates
Bad Religion and the Offspring, NOFX compensated with albums even closer
to the anti-commercial extreme -- exemplified by the 1992 single "Please
Play This Song on the Radio," which lures unalert radio programmers with
a tight melody, but ends with a stream of obscenities. ~ John Bush, All-Music
